Specific Heat Capacity
If you have ever been to the beach, you know that while the sand has become quite hot, the water has stayed cool.
So that the sand can get too hot to walk on. But you can always cool your feet off in the cold water.
Why is the water so much colder than the sand when they are both getting heated by the Sun equally?
The answer has to do with specific heat capacity!
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Define the term specific heat capacity and explain what it means.
- Memorize and use the formula for specific heat capacity, and understand what it means.
Instructions
- Begin with Video-assisted Learning to help build background and knowledge about specific heat capacity.
- Animation-assisted to help students learn and determine what material has a higher specific heat capacity.
- Hybrid teaching and learning integrated with student participation and feedback either in person or remotely by using myViewBoard Throw feature to answer the question in the classroom.
- Memorize and use the formula for specific heat capacity.
- Experiment to measure the specific heat capacities of water and aluminum.
