Shape Lesson 3: 2D Shape- Symmetry and Reflection

Form perception is the recognition of visual elements of objects, specifically those to do with shapes, patterns, and previously identified important characteristics.

By studying shapes, children learn so many skills that help them in other curriculum areas including reading, math, science, art, and visual-spatial thinking.

In the United States, national education standards for kindergarten include geometry skills such as identifying, describing, analyzing, comparing, creating, and composing shapes.

We designed four files of learning shapes original content from giving preschoolers lots of practice with shapes helps them solidify their understanding of the 2D structures and up to middle school students an insight of learning cross-section of 3D shapes.

Instructions

Grade 3-5 students will learn to recognize a line of symmetry for a two‐dimensional figure as a line across the figure such that the figure can be folded along the line into matching parts.

• Draw lines of symmetry on each shape.
• Identify line- Symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry.
• One-half of symmetrical shapes are shown on the grid, accurately drawing the reflection of these 2D shapes.
• 👉Draw the missing half to complete this image of the butterfly.
