What is sound? How to engage with sound?

Wassily Kandinsky saw colors when he heard music and heard music when he painted. He once said, “the sound of colors is so definite that it would be hard to find anyone who would express bright yellow with bass notes or dark lake with treble.”

Originals- Sound Activities 🔊👂🎨 talks about how sounds are produced. Students can become more conscious of sounds when they link them with art, such as colors or songs. Aiming to build children’s STEAM skills where science meets art and inspire them to be creative!

Activities:

  • Begin with Video-assisted Learning to learn about what is sound in physics.
  • What makes Sound? What are other examples of things that make sounds in everyday life? Students can use myViewBoard Throw feature to participate and give feedback either in person or remotely.
  • Choose the right features and draw the sound you are hearing!: Pick the description that best fits your feelings to the sound, then try drawing out the sound you hear.
  • What colors do you see and feel when you hear these sounds?: Fill in the circle with a color you see when you hear the instrument.
  • Let’s draw like Kandinsky!: Listen to the music "1812 overture" (Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky) and try to draw a picture of it.
