Basic Elementary Math 03: Subtraction
OVERVIEW
This is the third chapter of the mathematics concept series. The content provides activities which allow students to practice basic math subtraction techniques.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to:
- Understand the concept of math subtraction.
- Practice subtracting numbers.
- Perform horizontal and vertical subtraction methods.
- Utilize subtraction in real life situations.
ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTION
- Subtraction Activity 1: Drag some apples onto the tree first, then take some away. Complete the formula and write down the answer.
- Subtraction Activity 2: Roll the dice, then move the same number of eggs into the trash can. Use the vertical subtraction method to calculate how many eggs are left.
- Games and Quizzes: Play a ViewSonic Originals Online Game to practice math subtraction.
- Integrate Activity 1: Roll the dice and pull out the corresponding number of finches. Write down the sum and difference.
- Drag-and-Drop: Calculate the difference of the formula on the flowers, then move them into the correct pot.
- Subtraction Activity 3: Use the number on the top as a minuend and calculate the missing difference on each floor.
- Integrate Activity 2-- Card Game: Students will compete in two groups. Flip any two cards, If the cards are the same color, add the numbers up. If the cards are in different colors, subtract the smaller number from the larger one. The group that gets the most points win.
