OVERVIEW
This is the sixth chapter of the mathematics concept series. The content provides activities which allow students to get familiar with the concept of length, weight, and size.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to:
- Compare objects’ length, weight, and size.
- Identify superlatives and comparatives.
- Describe objects’ lengths by using other items as units.
- Apply the concept of measurement in real life.
ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTION
- Interactive Activity 1: Students can upload things they have seen that were big, heavy, or long to the provided space using ClassSwift.
- Superlatives: Read the descriptions and look at the items, circle the correct object.
- Interactive Activity 2: What objects can be used to measure the length of a door or a book? Students can upload their answers to the provided space using ClassSwift.
- Comparatives: Roll the dice first, then drag the vegetables to the area on the left and see which is longer.
- Spot the Errors: Are these correct measuring ways? If not, ask students to explain what is wrong and fix the error.
- Measurement Activity 1: How long are the objects? Use paper clips as units of measurement and write the answers in the boxes.
- Measurement Activity 2: How tall are the animals? Use bottles as units of measurement and write the answers in the boxes.
- Interactive Activity 3: Try to find objects in the classroom that are longer than the ones before. Students can upload their answers to the provided space using ClassSwift.
