OVERVIEW
This content allows students to count to 1000, understand the place value of three-digit numbers (ones, tens, hundreds), and practice calculating amounts in real-life shopping scenarios.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to:
- Develop counting skills and number sense up to 1000.
- Apply counting and place value skills to real-life scenarios.
- Reinforce place value concepts for three-digit numbers.
ACTIVITIES AND INSTRUCTION
- Pattern Recognition 1: Present students with various number patterns. Guide them in identifying the rules and completing the missing numbers.
- Count to 1000: Utilize the Infinite Canvas tool to explore the canvas and practice counting.
- Pattern Recognition 2: Present students with various number patterns. Guide them in identifying the rules and completing the missing numbers.
- Numbers Around Us: Have students identify numbers up to 1000 in their surroundings. Guide them in breaking down these numbers into ones, tens, and hundreds.
- Hundreds, tens and ones: Have students roll three dice to generate a three-digit number. Guide them in breaking down these numbers into ones, tens, and hundreds.
- Coin Counting: Provide students with piggy banks and coins. Have them count the correct number of coins to match the amounts on the labels.
- Snack Shopping: Present students with a scenario where Fynn the Finch wants to buy snacks. Have them calculate the total cost of the snacks and determine how much money Fynn needs.
- Bingo Counting: Divide the class into two teams. Have them play Bingo by taking turns picking number cards and reading the numbers aloud. The first team to get four numbers in a row wins.
- Counting Maze: Provide students with a maze where they must count correctly to choose the right path. The goal is to navigate the maze and reach the finish line as quickly as possible.
