Text

The Text tool allows users to perform text-based operations on the canvas. Use the tool to type, copy, paste, and format text (via keyboard input or handwriting recognition) as well as use the resulting text in myViewBoard's own Immersive Reader and Text-to-Speech features. 


To set the Text tool as the active tool, click the following icon on the main toolbar:

Basic use

The Text tool provides the following options:


Text

Adds text anywhere on the canvas.   


  1. Click   to activate the text tool. 
  2. Click anywhere on the canvas to begin adding text.
  3. Click outside to 'save' the text on the canvas.
  4. Afterwards, use the   Text tool or   Selection tool to edit the text.

Handwriting    

Use handwriting recognition to convert your written words into editable text.


  1. Click   to activate the text tool. 
  2. Click   in the text toolbar.
  3. Use a pen or your finger to write the first few words of your message on the canvas.
  4. Pause for a bit and wait for myViewBoard to enter handwriting recognition mode.

  5. Once handwriting recognition mode is active:
    1. You converted text is added to a new text block.
    2. Continue writing the rest of your message. 
      You can write anywhere on the board and the converted text will be added to the text block.
    3. This mode also allows you to switch to another engine for language input.

  6. To exit handwriting recognition mode: 
    1. Click Done.  
    2. Switch to another tool, or tap anywhere else in the canvas.



Speech-to-Text

Adds text into the canvas by converting your spoken words into editable text. For Speech-to-Text to work, the following are required:


  • Your device must have a microphone attached.
  • The Online speech recognition option in the Privacy and Security section of your Windows settings is enabled.



Once all requirements are met, perform the following:


  1. Click   to activate the text tool. 
  2. Click anywhere on the canvas to create an empty text block.
  3. Click   in the text toolbar.
  4. Start speaking into your microphone. myViewBoard transcribes your words and inserts them into the canvas.



Text-to-speech

Reads aloud the currently selected text. 


  1. Click   to activate the select tool. 
  2. Click a text block to display the adorning menu.
  3. Click   in the adorning menu.
  4. Allow some time for the feature to parse the text.



Adorning menu

The Adorning menu is a context menu that provides additional options to format your text after you've added them on the canvas. Actions available on the menu change depending on the active object selected. 

Options shown will depend on what text element is selected.


Text content

When adding or editing text inside a text block.


Text block

For text blocks added using the Text tool.

 


The following options are specific to the adorning menu for text:


 
Text color
Changes the color of the displayed text. By default, text color is black.
 
Background color
Adds a color block behind the text content. Use to highlight words or provide contrast for readability.
 
Text format
Displays options for changing the style of the currently selected text.
 
Alignment
Sets all content in the text block to align left, right, or center.
 
Bullets
Format selected text as a list, or add and remove indents in the current paragraph.
 
Handwriting recognition
Converts touchscreen input to digital text that can be edited for further processing.
 
Speech to text
Transcribes spoken content into written form. Click the arrow to show more options.
 
Immersive reader
Launches the Immersive reader app to read the selected text.
 
Text to speech
Reads out aloud the selected text on the canvas. Click the arrow to show more options.
