myViewBoard 3.0

Font compatibility

Due to differences in system architecture, the naming rule between myViewBoard Classic and the new version of myViewBoard is different. In this case, the system may not find the font in myViewBoard. When this happens, myViewBoard:

  • Allows users to choose the exact same font style, or
  • Automatically replace them all from system settings to ensure readability.

Fonts inside OLF files

OLF is a proprietary format for the myViewBoard ecosystem, designed to enable accurate opening and editing of interactive teaching materials across devices and platforms. When presentations or documents are converted between software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Apple Keynote), font display may differ slightly due to platform-specific font handling. OLF provides alternative font options to reduce these differences, though minor variations can still occur.

Behavior & Limitations

  • During conversion, some PowerPoint fonts may not fully comply with OLF compatibility standards. To prevent text loss, the system substitutes the closest matching font.
  • Font issues are common across cross-format conversions (e.g., PPT → PDF, Google Slides, Keynote, Word → PDF) and are not unique to myViewBoard.
  • Root cause: font spacing, line height, and metrics lack a unified global standard; rendering differs by software and platform.
  • To completely avoid differences, embed fonts in the file or convert text to images—at the cost of editability.
  • Avoid special or custom fonts unless they are embedded or installed on target systems; otherwise, formatting may shift.

Best Practices

  • Prefer fonts with high cross-platform compatibility (e.g., Arial, Calibri, Noto Sans / Noto Serif).
  • For decorative headings or specially designed text, convert to images to lock appearance.
  • When layout fidelity is critical, embed fonts before export or sharing.
