Annotate the canvas
On this page, review available annotation tools within myViewBoard across all versions.
Pen tools
Use the Pen tool to draw freehand lines and shapes. Available pens vary between myViewBoard versions.
Access pens by following these steps:
- Select the Pen tool in the main toolbar.
- The default selection is the black marker.
- Begin writing on the canvas if you want to begin annotating.
- Press again for the Marker menu or for switching between the different Pen tools.
- Press one of the 3 colored dots above the pen tool to quickly switch colors.

Eraser
The Eraser tool erases objects on the canvas. Press a second time to access additional eraser options that make clearing more objects easier.

Shapes and Lines
Use the Shapes and Lines tool to insert 2D shapes, 3D shapes, lines, and tables with different styles.
Access the Shapes and Lines tools by following these steps:
- Select Shapes and Lines in the main toolbar.
- The default selection is a black square .
- Begin creating a square on the canvas at any time by tapping and dragging to your desired size.
- Press again to access a menu of different shapes and lines.

Text editor and tools
With the text editor , input and format text onto the canvas.
The Windows version of myViewBoard supports more text options, including Immersive Reader, text-to-speech, and more.

Adorning menu
Select an object using the select tool to display the adorning menu next to that object.
All objects
These options are available for all selected objects.
Windows
Fade | Fade a selected object in or out. (Shapes and Lines do not support this feature.) |
Spin | Spin an object, as you would a spinner in a board game. |
Lock |
Lock the position of selected objects. |
Moveable Lock | >Move objects without displaying the Adorning Menu. |
Cut | Cut selected objects. |
Link | Embed a link into a selected object. |
Copy | Copy selected objects. |
Drag-to-Copy | Once turned on, drag an object to create a copy of it. |
Mirror object | Create a mirrored copy of a selected object. |
Flip object | Flip a selected object along a selected axis. |
Delete | Delete selected objects. |
Save object | Save a selected object. |
Group | Group selected objects. |
Align multiple objects | Align objects horizontally or vertically with multiple options available. |
Android & iOS
Fade | Fade a selected object in or out. (Shapes and Lines do not support this feature.) |

Special Objects
These options are available for all selected objects.
Windows
Line Thickness | Adjust line thickness using a slider. |
Opacity | Set transparency of an object's fill (not its border). Also affects strokes made with Pen tools. |
Color | Change the color of selected lines or text. |
Color Fill | Change the color fill of selected objects. |
Show Measurements | Show measurements of a shape or line. Only for 2D shapes and lines. |
Segments | Divide a shape into equal segments (or slices for a circle). Only for 2D shapes. |
Inner Circle | Add a circle inside a shape. Only for certain 2D shapes. |
Outer Circle | Add a circle outside a shape. Only for certain 2D shapes. |
Pie or Arc | Convert a circle into a pie or arc object. |
Combine Shapes | Merge multiple selected shapes into a single shape. Only for multiple 2D shapes. |
Remove Color | Remove a specific color in an image. |
Crop Image | Edit an image to only show a custom region. |
Fit to Screen | Resize a selected image to fill the whole screen within your canvas view. |
Set as Background | Set a selected image as the canvas background. |
Object Layers | Set order objects display over each other, with options to display objects at the back or front. |
Sticky Notes Layers | Collect all Sticky Notes in a pop-up window. Great for when many Sticky Notes cover the canvas. |
Text-to-Speech | Have text read aloud. Only for text content. |
Android & iOS
